Arrestor Bed Installation

In the wake of 2006's tragic plane runoff at Midway Airport, Chicago Airport Resources Enterprise has comissioned BB&A's Construction Management Department to oversee the installation of safety barriers, known as arrestor beds (pictured at left), in all corners of each airport.

BB&A has a long history of doing all phases of work at each airport, and carries the distinction of being the only firm to provide construction oversight of the arrestor bed installation at both O'Hare and Midway.

On July 19, 2008 BB&A's hard work was put to the test at O'Hare when a Mexicana flight overshot the runway and was stopped by the arrestor beds, resulting in just one injury.

All four corners of Midway Airport are currently equipped with with barriers and O'Hare is scheduled for completion for this winter – just in time for the slippery conditions that ice and snow will bring.
