Structural Engineer Leads Chicago Skyscraper Tour
Chicago, IL — May 3, 2004 - Robert B. Johnson, PE, SE,
a Senior Structural Engineer with the firm Bowman, Barrett & Associates
Inc. (BB&A) will lead a tour during the 6th Annual Great Chicago Places
and Spaces Celebration. Johnson's two-hour tour, "A Structural
Engineer's Perspective of Chicago's Skyscrapers" will kick
off at 10:00am on Sunday, May 23rd from the northeast corner of Dearborn and
Van Buren. The tour will allow participants to view the structural systems
of some of Chicago's famous skyscrapers through the eyes of a structural
engineer. Structural innovations will be highlighted during the tour. This
is Johnson's third consecutive year giving this tour through the Structural
Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI).
"Though Chicago architecture is revered by Chicagoans, very little attention
is paid to the structural systems that support these buildings," states
Johnson. "My tour will shed some light on the essential role that structural
engineering and structural engineers have contributed in creating Chicago's
famed skyscrapers."
Great Chicago Places and Spaces is a weekend celebration of architecture and
design that offers more than 175 free tours of Chicago and its neighborhoods
given by volunteer tour guides, architects, designers and architecture enthusiasts.
