Louis Bowman Honored with Distinguished Alumni Award
Chicago, IL – March 11, 2009 – Louis Bowman, PE, PLS, Chairman of Chicago Firm Bowman, Barrett & Associates, was recently honored with a 2009 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association (CEEAA) of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Bowman was recognized for his expertise as a leader in major engineering projects and corporate management as well as business development. The award was presented March 11 at the CEEAA’s annual dinner at the Union League Club in Chicago.
Bowman holds a Bachelor’s Degree (1951) in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois. Over the course of his career, Bowman has worked on numerous major highway, rail and airport projects throughout the Midwest, including major interstates in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana.
Notable accomplishments include the Project Management for design and construction of the Illinois Center infrastructure in Downtown Chicago, the C&NW Intermodal Rail Yard at 24th and Western, the relocation of the portion of Lake Shore Drive from the Chicago River to Monroe Street, and the ongoing $6.6 billion O’Hare Modernization Project.
Other recent awards presented to Bowman include ASCE-IL Civil Engineer of the Year, 2008 March of Dimes Transportation Award, and the 2008 ARTBA Leadership Award. He was also recently inducted into the Ottawa High School Hall of Fame.
