Bowman, Barrett & Associates worked with Janssen & Spaans Engineering to provide design-build engineering services for a new 10-span arch bridge over the Fox River. The new bridge will increase capacity by carrying eastbound traffic on the Ronald Reagan Memorial Expressway over the river.

Originally opened in 1958, the current bridge now carries two lanes of traffic in each direction. With the completion of the new structure, the existing bridge will carry four lanes of westbound traffic and the new bridge will carry four lanes of eastbound traffic.

In order to replicate the design of the original bridge, the 1,345 foot long structure will be made of precast concrete, featuring a series of five spans out of ten total spans.

In addition to bridge plans, BB&A performed hydraulic studies of the Fox River, utility relocation, and mainline widening and ramp relocations.

The arch rib design using precast reinforced, rather than post-tensioned concrete added value to the project and assured that our design resulted in the lowest bid while meeting the aesthetic and environmental requirements of the stakeholders.
