BB&A was retained to provide Construction Management services for the replacement of the departure level roadway inner lanes at O'Hare International Airport for Terminals 1, 2 and 3.

The scope of work included:

  • Removal of the existing PCC approach slabs, bridge deck and pre-stressed beams, center median, sidewalk between terminals, electrical lighting and signage.
  • Existing piers were sounded and repaired
  • New pre-stressed PCC beams
  • Pre-cast deck planks
  • Concrete deck
  • Installation of metal halide lights on the underside of the deck
  • New exposed, epoxy-coated conduits
  • Electrical circuits were re-routed to the two new electrical stations installed on the lower level roadway

Traffic was routed from the inner lanes to the outer lanes around each phase in order to keep the roadway open to traffic from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Construction was completed on a condensed time schedule to accommodate the airlines concerns of extended traffic disruptions and customer inconveniences.
