When steadily increasing usage necessitated improvements, the City of Chicago retained BB&A to review the condition of the portion of the 7.8 mile elevated Chicago Skyway known as the 106th Street Viaduct and prepare plans for its repair and reconstruction. BB&As recommendations included removal of the existing structure between Ewing Avenue/100th Street and the state line, replacing it with embankment and PCC pavement; construction of a tunnel at 105th Street for northbound ramp access; relocation and reconstruction of the southbound off-ramp to 104th Street; rehabilitation of the existing structure at the Indiana state line; and reconstruction of Indianapolis Boulevard including lighting, traffic signals, and landscaping.
