Bowman, Barrett & Associates Inc. to Receive Honor
Award from the Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois
Chicago, IL – January 2, 2004 - Bowman, Barrett & Associates
Inc. (BB&A) announces winning a 2004 Engineering Excellence Honor Award
from the Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois (CECI). This award is in
recognition of BB&A’s work on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF)/Orchard
Road Grade Separation project in Aurora, IL.
BB&A was hired by the Kane County Division of Transportation to provide
grade separation structures at the Orchard Road intersection of the BNSF Railroad.
The at-grade crossing at Orchard Road was unsafe for motorists and pedestrians
and created inevitable delays.
BB&A provided overall management of the planning and design of the project.
The engineering challenge was to construct grade separation structures for
both the railroad and pedestrian path, while maintaining all traffic modes.
The project construction began in June 2001 and was substantially complete
by November 2002.

BB&A’s solution alleviated significant delays and safety hazards
to this important north/south arterial in Kane County. Utilizing their expertise,
BB&A addressed the complexities of the project and reached a solution that
met Kane County’s goals,” wrote Paul Rogowski, Director of Transportation
at the Kane County Division of Transportation in a letter addressed to CECI.
Other consultants who worked on this project include the Hayden Bulin Larson
Design Group, Ltd. of Chicago, IL; Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. of
Rosemont, IL; Schleede-Hampton Associates, Inc. of McHenry, IL and Crawford,
Murphy & Tilly, Inc. of Aurora, IL.
This project was one of only 13 projects state-wide that won an Honor Award
from CECI. The organization will recognize BB&A and Kane County, as well
as the other winning firms at the 33rd Annual Engineering Excellence Awards
Reception and Luncheon on Friday, January 30, 2004 at the Renaissance Springfield
Hotel in Springfield, IL.
