Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center Projects

Client: Warman, Olsen, Warman
Location: Chicago, Illinois

Challenge
Bowman, Barrett & Associates Inc. (BB&A) was hired by the architect to provide structural engineering services for numerous facilities at the subject location. Creative design solutions were developed to seamlessly integrate expansion of the medical center with existing facilities.

Parking Garage

BB&A designed foundations for the four-story precast concrete parking garage. The garage provides medical staff and visitors with ample parking space in a residential neighborhood. A pedestrian bridge connects the parking garage and the nine-story office building with the main hospital.
Completion Date: 1994
Construction Cost: $4.5 Million

PACU Addition

With limited space to expand, a new surgery ward was designed over the existing entrance ramps. A new glass enclosure was constructed to provide visitors with covered access to a five-story parking garage.
Completion Date: 1996
Construction Cost: $900,000

Education and Information Center

BB&A designed the four-story structural steel building and one-story addition over the existing three-story building. The addition provides space for administrative offices and training rooms.
Completion Date: 1999
Construction Cost: $3 Million

Nelson Street Bridge and Tower

The pedestrian bridge connects the Education and Information Center to the main hospital. A verendeel truss eliminated the need for diagonal members.
Completion Date: 1999
Construction Cost: $600,000
