BB&A was retained to provide Master Planning and Design Engineering Services as part of the Move Illinois Program for a 12 mile segment of I-90 near Elgin, Illinois.

Master Planning Services were required to develop the scope of work for the 12-mile segment and provide follow on Design Section Engineer’s with enough information to meet the project schedule requirements for construction.

The project team then developed final plans for the 4 mile segment from the UPRR to the Elgin Plaza which included reconstruction and widening of the mainline from two lanes to three lanes (four lanes east of Randall Road), reconstruction and widening of I-90 over the UP Railroad and Sleepy Hollow Road and all drainage, signing, lighting and ITS improvements. In addition, the team prepared an Advance Widening contract to facilitate maintenance of traffic during mainline reconstruction. The Tollway committed to build a “Green” corridor designed for 21st Century capabilities.

To meet the challenges of schedule and coordination with the Tollway’s diverse corridor team, BB&A utilized MicroStation’s Projectwise document management system to facilitate project communication and efficient design production.
